[TNG] Season One Rating Comparisons

We love looking at what other people have said about Star Trek, so we’ve compiled some of the ratings for season one of The Next Generation all in one place to compare. We took the ratings from a few different reviewers and calculated what their scores would be out of 100. Keep in mind that they originally didn’t rate the episodes with that exact scale, but we tried to accurately translate their rating. It’s also important to keep in mind that each reviewer may have different meanings behind their ratings.

We once again took a look at Jordan Hoffman‘s reviews, blogger for StarTrek.com. We included the reviews by Jamahl Epsicokhan who runs Jammer’s Reviews. We also have Kethinov, another favorite Star Trek reviewer. We’re also bringing back the duo that is Treknobabble. Keep in mind that Treknobabble’s scores are a combined rating from two reviewers, so their scale is slightly different. UPDATE: We’ve now also included Keith Decandido’s reviews, who has been re-watching TNG for Tor.com.

The scores were much more all over the place than we were expecting. It seems people don’t agree on most of the episodes from the first season of TNG. The closest thing to a consensus was that Angel One wasn’t very good, receiving an average score of 27.5. Haven wasn’t very far above it with a score of 30.4, although Jammer gave it a decent rating.

The favorite episode was Conspiracy with an average score of 76.25, although Keith Decandido and Kethinov only found it mediocre.

Here are the top 5 according to the averaged scores:

1. Conspiracy – 76.25
2. 11001001 – 73.3
3. The Neutral Zone – 66.25
4. Where No One has Gone Before – 65.4
5. Arsenal of Freedom – 64.2

We were the only ones who didn’t really like 11001001. I guess everyone really got a kick out of Riker’s seductive trombone playing.
