[TNG] Descent, Part I

[TNG] Season 6, Episode 26: Descent, Pt. 1

Rating: 2

In the broadest terms there’s potential in the idea of seeing the fallout of Hugh’s re-introduction into the Borg hive mind, but nothing much comes of it that wasn’t already explored better in Hugh’s first appearance. After that its just evil Data business, which provides a couple creepy scenes, but is otherwise a very jumbled look at the fear of Data receiving emotions. The emotion chip is a giant mistake as far as I’m concerned, and Descent reinforces that.

Notes:

Data hangs out with his pals
Newton is a bit of a curmudgeon
Stephen Hawking agreed to appear on Star Trek under one condition: that he would be allowed to personally humiliate Albert Einstein.
It has always bothered me that the holodecks can recreate the image of pretty much everything, but you have to bring your own visor.
They run into some Borg, only now with fast reflexes and ‘tudes.
Uh oh
This is an honest attempt at a cube from these Borg dummies.
Data asks Geordi to explain anger.
Data says the thing about the killing in anger is that he found it super fun.
They capture a Borg and it brainwashes Data and they run away together.
Everyone goes to look for Data, and Beverly is left in charge of the ship. This will end up being the only good storyline of the two parter.
The Borg’s behavior changes in several key ways during this two parter, the most important of which is that they hired a top branding firm to whip up a logo.
Oh good the twist is that Lore is behind everything 😒. The Borg respect him because he has fabric muscle armor.
