[PIC] Disengage

[PIC] Season 3, Episode 2: Disengage

Rating:

“Disengage” is pretty decompressed, so there’s a lot of just kinda waiting for the thing to happen you know will happen, or waiting for a reveal to see which direction they go in. Not a lot of commitment or interest on a scene-by-scene basis. The directionless misery and cynicism that has plagued the series resurfaces in a bigger way this episode as well – probably the most perplexing component to the show overall.
In true movie fashion, they are returning to the big bad villain well, but it’s nice that they at least got Plummer to ham it up in style, she’s the highlight of the episode. Captain Shaw has begun his arc towards being less horrible, so that’s also nice to see, even if he’s still pretty horrible. I can’t help but compare him to the much better written Jellico, so that probably isn’t helping either.
I guess we should talk more about Jack Crusher, but we’ll unfortunately have time to do that in subsequent episodes, I suspect.

Notes:

Jack is a nice guy criminal. The worst kind of criminal
Raffi is screaming exposition at her handler that he already knows. Why is this a recurring character trait of hers remember when she berated poor ol jean luc about the dead sword boy
Titan saves the day!!
Now its Raffi’s turn to get screamed at. This guy needs a painting apron.
The Titan crew meets up with a nice old lady

They do that thing where the addict is undercover and has to do the drug to prove they aren’t a cop

But it actually doesn’t prove anything, Not only did the Ferengi guy already know she was lying, he must have known about this dumb addict plot and wanted Raffi to relapse to move her arc along.
At least Worf is here now!!
Beverly gets teary eyed which is her way of saying that Jack is Picard’s son.
So Picard decides they’re going to run away from the nice old lady instead of hand over Jack. Do u think Picard feels weird about his son being named after Beverly’s dead husband
