[TNG] Gambit, Pt. II

[TNG] Season 7, Episode 5: Gambit, Part 2

Rating: 3

Like part one, this portion of Gambit earns a 3 mostly because it has just enough nice little beats, many of them coming from the layers of deception at play. The biggest highlight, again, is Data in command of the Enterprise. The second part of Gambit has a super weak “everybody think good thoughts!” Non-climax at the end which is probably one of the main reasons why this whole story is kinda forgettable.

Notes:

Enterprise and Riker/Picard have a pretend fight.
Riker buddies up with the mercenary captain.
Data disciplines Worf! Very easily the best scene of the two-parter. Watching these two weirdos negotiate a bump in their friendship is genuinely heart warming.
The Romulan bad lady turns out to be a Vulcan GOOD lady, and then finally a Vulcan BAD lady, and somehow none of these are who she actually is: the replacement Saavik.
James Worthy is tall.
Riker leads a raid on Enterprise!
Mutiny!
The Vulcan lady gets the artifact superweapon!
It sends a slow-moving goop effect at you!
But you’re ok as long as you think about puppies and other non-violent thoughts. This is for real how they’re ending this whole story.
