[TNG] Birthright Pt. I

[TNG] Season 6, Episode 16: The Birthright, Part 1

Rating: 2

The Bashir and Data team up is unexpected and kinda fun, and I always like to see Data getting advice from his friends, but then the story just fizzles out. Then there’s a totally different Worf story that is essentially setup for a “to be continued.” The two unconnected plots threads, one of which continues while the other does not, plus a strangely low stakes crossover with DS9, makes for one of the most confounding story structures in the show’s run. It isn’t terrible, but it seems like a bunch of leftovers mashed together.

Notes:

Enterprise is at Deep Space 9! I can’t wait to see how the Sisko/Picard tension is expanded on, or how Dax or Odo will interact with the crew, oh and I bet O’Brien will be eager to see everyone!
But the only DS9 crew around is Bashir. Budget crossover I guess.
They do the thing where food is gross and Worf says “delicious.”
An alien says Worf’s father is still alive! He’s a big disgraceful prisoner.
This causes Worf to go into a fit of aerobics.
Bashir asks Data the top voted reddit questions, like does his hair grow.
But then Data gets zapped!
Which makes him dream of his father.
Worf gives himself a pep talk and also Data is sitting there.
Double-handed painting!
more dream
In his dream, Spot is captain (also this concludes this story arc, hope you weren’t itching for it in part 2)
Worf goes to rescue the Klingon prisoners. His dad isn’t among them.
But then these Klingons are cool with the Romulans??
