[TNG] Power Play

[TNG] Season 5, Episode 15: Power Play

Rating: 3

Power Play is overall fun enough and different enough that the rough spots don’t drag it too far down. The plans of these ghosts don’t make a ton of sense, which the writers acknowledge. You’d think they’d have a better strategy if they’ve been floating around the planet’s atmosphere for so much time, but I guess they’re just too moody to be strategic.

Notes:

Enterprise finds the site where an old Federation ship went down. Troi senses life!
So they go crash a shuttle down there.
O’Brien beams down to save them
Then they all get struck by lightning and some orbs of light go into Troi, Data, and O’Brien. Probably nothing to worry about.
The three of them very easily beat up the entire bridge crew!
They couldn’t take over the bridge so they settle for the bar.
Keiko was hanging out in Ten-forward with her baby, and the possessed O’Brien sorta remembers them. These O’Brien scenes are pretty creepy.
Picard trades himself for the injured hostages.
The three say they are the spirits of crew from the crashed federation ship, and all they want is to retrieve their bodies and be put to rest. These sure are rude starfleet officers, maybe one of them is Commander Landry.
The three of them step inside a zapping circle like total fools.
Turns out the circle is only two thirds effective.
So the zapping plan doesn’t really pan out.
Picard tells Riker to give them safe passage to cargo bay 4, the safest of all cargo bays.
Turns out they’re aliens that wanted to free all their glowy prisoner friends and possess everybody on the Enterprise.
But Picard tricked them, and is just going to kill everyone in the cargo bay if they don’t return the bodies they took.
