[TNG] Redemption, Part II

[TNG] Season 5, Episode 1: Redemption, Part 2

Rating:  4

There’s a lot of high quality Worf Content in Redemption Part 2, and nice Picard scenes as well. We always like a good Romulan scheme, and even though Sela is an odd villain we don’t really care for, the rest of the story works.

Notes:

We start off with some action! Kurn yells at a sun!
And it blows up two of the Duras ships
Picard basically takes up the opposite position he had last episode, where now he’s trying to convince the Federation to get involved in the conflict
Starfleet is apparently super short-staffed, and Picard gives Riker command of another ship for this mission
Data says “Hey uh I noticed you gave Riker command of a ship and not me, it’s not because I’m an android is it?” (paraphrasing)
Picard says “No, what do you mean, pshhh, …you can take command of the Sutherland.” (paraphrasing)
Klingon punching party! It’s pretty comical how over the top this scene is. Just some dudes drinking, head-butting, stabbing each other, ya know, having a good time. They’re Klingons
On the Sutherland, they don’t like android captains much. Luckily for Data he gets to prove himself as a captain in a battle episode, not a diplomacy, or understanding-basic-metaphors episode
Sela shows herself to Enterprise!
Picard says “hey she kinda looks like that lady from season 1… anyway I guess back to the mission.” (paraphrasing)
But then Guinan gets a feeling deep inside her that when Yar traveled back in time during the episode Yesterday’s Enterprise, she could have been captured by the Romulans and had a very-similar-looking daughter. TNG really likes to yank us around in regard to Yar. First a tragic, unceremonious death, then she gets a chance to go out like a hero in Yesterday’s Enterprise. And now we find out that ended horribly as well.
Meanwhile the Duras sisters are trying to convince Worf to join forces. It’s not working
“The entire area’s been flooded with tachyon particles, we’ll never find what we’re looking for.” dang this guy is giving Data some serious lip
But then Data gives him a dirty look, and then Data’s plan turns out to be awesome
Another punching party! oh no actually this was for real. Worf beats up the Romulans
Gowron wins! He lets Worf kill the Duras kid
But Worf says nah I’m out of here, this Klingon stuff is weird
