[TNG] True Q

[TNG] Season 6, Episode 6: True Q

Rating: 2

This episode could have been really great. Someone wrestling with developing omnipotence is pretty fertile ground for a whole host of ideas and drama, but this episode is excessively lightweight. Lots of time is spent on below average Q schtick. They do a pretty good job of fleshing out the guest character but it just goes nowhere.

Notes:

There’s a new intern and for some reason its a big deal.
But then she accidentally materializes puppies. Oops!
We finally learn how tricoders are stored. VERY space-efficient.
A box almost falls on Riker’s head in a cargo bay. Those cargo bays are death traps.
But Amanda does a cool hand gesture!
She stops a warp core breach with her hands, too.
Q was testing to see if she had developed some Q powers. Her parents were Q but pretended to be human or something? It’s not really important.
Q needs to determine if she’s a real Q or some kind of half-Q half-human.
So they play hide and seek. A lot more of the hand moves in this part if that’s your thing.
She doesn’t quite buy the “you’re omnipotent now” line until she’s walkin’ around in space.
She, like all of us, is seduced by Riker’s rebellious style of sitting on chairs.
So she dabbles in some Q-esque abuse of power.
Picard sits Q down and gives him a talking to.
She decides to join with the Q continuum but like who cares we don’t even know this lady.
