[TNG] Deja Q

[TNG] Season 3, Episode 13: Deja Q

Deja QRating: 3

If you don’t like Q than you might want to skip this one. I like it because it’s funnier than a typical Q episode and there’s more of a point to it than just featuring Q silliness.

For me, this one gets a 4. I watched TNG so many times, I think the first time was in the 90s, when the last seasons were aired in the US and still, after all these years, I’m looking forward to this episode. That “He is back!”-I-show-you-what trrumpets-are-made-for- Mariachi-moment (not the cigars) is one of the few moments of Star Trek being REALLY funny and Data laughing is so very heart-warming… plus, we got to witness a meme born, decades later, in this episode. Another detail: when Q welcomes Jean-Luc in the ready room, he says “What about a big hug!?”. The german script* made “What about a big welcome-kiss!?” out of it, which is much more amusing!

*a word on the german dubbing: the voice actors are really, really good in TNG (and all movies), especially because everybody pronounces “Picard” the right way – with a silent “d”. But the translation sometimes sucks big time…except here!
