[TNG] Time’s Arrow pt. I

[TNG] Season 5, Episode 26: Time’s Arrow, Part I

Rating: 4

Time’s Arrow is probably the most fun two-parter in the franchise. It takes full advantage of the premise of Data being thrown back in time to 19th century San Francisco. What’s added to Guinan’s character in the two parter is equally fantastic. Jerry Hardin’s performance as Clemens is … we’ll say “big,” but it kinda works with the tone of the episode.

Notes:

They find Data’s head in a cave from the 1800s! Whatta good set up!
Data is pretty ok with death. Later, the new Picard show will *really* run with this idea.
They might have to go back in time. They don’t want to bring Data so that he doesn’t die in the past, but circumstances make it inevitable in a pretty believable way.
Only Data can phase shift himself .004 seconds in the past. It’s nice ‘creepy when we can only hear Data describing the aliens he’s seeing.
He wakes up in the 1800s! So far he still has a head though.
Data needs some money, and discovers a poker game. Honestly I don’t know the last time I’ve been this excited to see a poker game.
Dukat is there!
Data wins.
But then some people shoot a guy with their laser-bag!
Guinan tells Picard he should go on the away mission to get Data back. Anything else you could tell him that would be helpful, Guinan?
Data runs into past-Guinan hanging out with…. MARK TWAIN?? what is this, TOS?
The crew figures out how to go after Data! To be continued!
