Technically this episode is mostly wheel spinning ’til we get some Spock stuff in part two, but each individual sequence works well, so we can’t be mad about it. This episode is also a little different from most because at least the Riker/Enterprise side of the plot is more McGuffin-driven. The crew goes from one place to the next to track down some missing stuff, but we get to see some sides of the Trek universe that we aren’t often privy to.
If you hadn’t seen “Next Week on Star Trek,” or any commercials or anything, this woulda been a big surprise.Sarek’s wife has a HUGE necklace.Sarek’s Old Vulcan Disease™ is a lot worse now Sarek regrets that he may not be able to tell Spock that he loves him :'( Picard says he’ll mention it if he runs into Spock. It’s a good scene!Kasuf from Stargate lets everyone know Gowron has let the whole defeat-of-the-Duras-family thing go to his head and isn’t easy to reach.After some nice diplomatic persuasion, Picard convinces the Klingons to loan him a ship captained by Stephen Root.Riker and company investigate some stuff with a Zakdorn, but they don’t have time to play any Strategema.Meanwhile, Data watches Picard try to sleep.Picard receives news that Sarek diedRiker accidentally blows up a ship. It was real fragile.Time to go undercover!Romulans make Romulan faces about some stuffBut then Picard and Data get caught!But they’re caught by Spock and his new Romulan friends, so its ok.
