[VOY] Rise

[VOY] Season 3, Episode 19: Rise

RiseRating: 2

This episode isn’t very good. However, there are several parts where Tuvok beats up people so “Rise” is saved from getting a 1.

Rise

Neelix goes outside and sees a space elevator. Luckily Neelix used to work on space elevators (?)

They go to the elevator and there's a lady living there. They mainly talk about what needs to be repaired, but she holds a knife to Neelix's throat the whole time. I like this lady

Voyager opens up meteor. Someone's launching these things!

Voyager opens up a meteor. Someone’s launching these things in some kind of needlessly convoluted scheme!

Neelix gives the elevator a name. Tuvok reminds Neelix that they could die and maybe he should get back to work, yet somehow I still get the feeling we're supposed to be taking Neelix's side on this

Neelix says it was actually just models of elevators that he used to work on. Again, throughout this whole episode, we're meant to side with Neelix and think that Tuvok is too hard on him

One guy was poisoned! Before he died he said there was something on the roof.

Neelix won't continue to drive the elevator until someone checks the roof. They go back to the instincts vs logic battle that I've never been interested in

Neelix won’t continue to drive the elevator until someone checks the roof. They go back to the “instincts vs logic” battle that I’ve never been interested in. Neelix is also upset about how Tuvok talks down to him just because Tuvok is way cooler and better in pretty much every way

Oh also Voyager is fighting a ship and it turns out the enemy alien ship’s shield information was on the data pad on the roof. What luck!

Must admit, to me this seems like one of the best from Season 3…Tuvok and Neelix are not my favorite characters, but the story explores their relationship in a satisfying way– reminiscent of Spock/McCoy encounters. Also the tether scenes were dramatic, well done (I thought).
Like how you break down the episodes and rotate through the different series. Cool site.
